AF1002 Group 3 Times & Nonsense.
Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Regarding to the issue brought up, in my opinion , Singapore has worked so hard to come this far today. It shows that we are not lagging behind, we are improving each year. We all should have more faith in our country and ourselves. From the five points being mentioned in the article, I strongly agree to point number one and four.

First, a strong culture of education and learning. The government has built many tertiary schools like Junoir colleges, Polytechnics and University. Almost every child in Singapore is offered an education so that we have at least a cert for us to apply for jobs in future. Everyone is given an opportunity to learn and study. Also, we have tests and exams conducted on regular basis, or some quizes to enhance our knowledge. Compare ourselves with the older generations, we are more fortunate. In the olden days, most of them can't even read or write. The literacy rate is low, that is because most of them does not have the ability to afford an education and does not have a certificate to apply for better jobs. This stressed the importance of education so that we can at least match the standard of education compared at an international level. It has also proves to show me that learning is a life long journey as the education system has been changing throughout the years.

Fourth point, a magnet for talent pool. Singapore has open its door to allow the flow of migrates to attract more tourists to stay in Singapore permanently. Their talents and skills will also be very useful here, especially if we lack of such a skill or talent. Next is the population growth rate. Government has been encouraging people to give birth to two or more children. This is to increase birth rate and so that we have a bigger population and also to increase the talent pool.

In conclusion , Singapore has made it's effort to 'stay young forever' and I'm very opstimistic that Singapore can do it, only with our 'self-upgrading' and ' never say die' attitude to solve every problems that we might be facing.
