AF1002 Group 3 Times & Nonsense.

In reference to the article regarding schools stressing to pupils about no copying, I find that this is a good way to start educating the young about the seriousness of plagiarism.

With advancements in technology, primary school students are now required to use the internet to download useful information for their school projects. If they are not taught about plagiarism, they would simply "copy and paste" everything from the internet onto their projects. This would not only result in them violating the rights of the author, but also resulting in them not being able to comprehend the information they had downloaded. Therefore, this would defeat the whole purpose of the project as projects are meant to help students understand a certain topic in more depth through reading additional information about it.

Other than plain counselling, primary schools should set more impactful consequences on plagiarism. For example, if a student is caught downloading chunks of information and using it in their projects without rephrasing, the teacher would immediately deduct ten marks from the project without any room for negotiation. This would enable the student to apprehend the seriousness of plagiarism from a tender age so that he or she will not repeat it again at university level. At university level, penalties for plagiarism would usually be a fail grade in the course, suspension or expulsion in the most serious cases. This shows the seriousness of plagiarism at university level.

In conclusion, plagiarism is a serious offence and it will result in dire consequences. It is merely a misconception if anyone thinks that plagiarising other people's work is the easy way out.
In contrast, this is the more difficult way out.
