AF1002 Group 3 Times & Nonsense.
Sunday, June 13, 2010

To be honest, before this blog project started, I hardly read about news from Singapore or around the world. Reading news had never been my interest over the last seventeen years of my life. To my amazement, after blogging for the past four weeks, I found myself more interested in news. Other than just reading about the articles that needed to be blogged about weekly, I now read about news every day, knowing what is happening in Singapore as well as around the world. It has become a part and parcel of my daily life already.

The article that had the greatest impact on me was the one on plagiarism. Prior to blogging about this topic, the topic on plagiarism was not entirely "alien" to me. I had already known the meaning of it. However, what I was unaware was, the consequences that it could bring about. It has taught me that copying other people's work can result in dire consequences and one should not do it even if he or she is desperate. It is totally not worth the price that one has to pay from plagiarising the work of others.

Of course, the other topics also had an impact on me.

The article on the environment showed me how the selfishness of some people could harm the environment. For example, over fishing in waters. Fishermen fish excessively in waters just so that they could make money from selling those fishes. Due to their own personal gains, they cause the number of fishes in the waters to be depleted at a rapid rate. This shows how much they actually "care" for their environment. Another example would be deforestation. People cut down trees excessively also for the sake of making money as timber is very valuable. This is how practical and money-oriented people can be.

The article on the Mother Tongue Language weighting has taught me the importance of the language. Although I would most probably never have to study Mother Tongue again, but I feel very fortunate to have once studied it as my second language in both primary and secondary school. Learning about the Chinese culture had been very meaningful to me.

In conclusion, I have learnt a lot though these four weeks of blogging. The impact that each article made on me is truly amazing.
