English is a worldwide used language. "Language quite literally anchors human progress -- it allows children to learn, authors to write, consumers to buy, companies to produce, leaders to negotiate, people to travel, and enables just about anything else that you can imagine," quoted from the article. From here, we can know that we are all largely dependent on English as a communication tool. Hence, English is a powerful tool in helping us with our daily lifes when we interact with people. In supermarkets or any other shops, we can often see labels of prices and tags on items being displayed for sale. Even catelogs and letters are also written in English. Let take education as an example, 0 levels proved the importance of English. If you failed English, it directly equals to failing the whole education system and you will have to retake the paper or the chances of you getting into the courses you want is minimal. Hence, many people want to keep in pace in the society, that is why we can see that some even took up English as their second language. Even the the largest population country, China, is starting to learn to pick up English quickly so that they can 'upgrade' their culture. As we know, their strength is mandarin and they can speak and write fluently in mandarin. To get used to writing and speaking english may need to take some time for them. However, this does not refers to all of them. I have a ex-colleague from China, who can speak in English as good as an American and even better than me. In conclusion, English is a really top choice of language to use in worldwide because this is where no one else is superior or in benefit than another and also a common language among us, regardless of country, religion and race. -TRICIA
