AF1002 Group 3 Times & Nonsense.
Monday, July 5, 2010

As we all know, FIFA World Cup is held once ever four years. The world cup that we have been waiting for is finally here! All the football fans must be very excited. World Cup fever is around everywhere, be it at home, kopitiams or in school. Most of the soccer fans will stay up late at night to watch their football matches. Roaring sound of 'GOAL' is a common word that we will hear when whichever team scores a point. Yes, I agree it may be irritating at times when we are trying to sleep and suddenly awaken by these noises.

I remember during one of the days during the break, I couldn't get to sleep and I keep hearing 'GOAL' from my neighbours and my father. So, in the end, I ended up accompanying my dad to watch the World Cup and I realised people always get agitated when they watch World Cup. It if often that we hear someone swearing when they are watching World Cup.

This shows how much Singaporeans are enthusiastic and anxious about soccer. They are willingly to sacrifice their long hours of sleep just to watch the soccer match. It is even ridiculous that some can even lied to their employees that they are on 'sick leaves' and even worst, one of the employer even lied to his/her boss that his mother-in-law is receiving medical treatment for lung cancer and wanted a few days off. Another even quit his job to support World Cup. In my opinion, I think this guy must be mad or stupid. He chose to watch World Cup at the expense of quiting his job and this definitely wouldn't benefit him in the long run .

From the scenerios above, it can be also observed that it will lead to lower productivity in work and people are having short attention span in the day due to the late stayed up at night. I feel that they should manage their time and piority well in order not to affect their studies or work because of the World Cup. So the question came, is World Cup benefiting us all or is it affecting our daily lifes? The choice is ours, we make our own choice.

-TRICIA .
